The regulator that supervises packaging was renamed in 2026 and its decision organ split into a packaging section and a wider extended-producer-responsibility section. Scheme guidance states that the scheme performs registration collectively for its members and returns the official number to them, while non-members register directly.

A company that is not a member of an approved scheme registers directly with the regulator. A member is registered collectively by its scheme, which returns the official number.
How long does registration take?
We do not publish a timing figure. The register is operated by a third party and we record what it returns, with its date.
What number goes on a marketplace form?
We only state what is on file from the body that issued it. Where a marketplace requirement is not evidenced by a current first-party source, we say so rather than guess.
